The Norman Wells Land Corporation is a not-for-profit corporation representing the Sahtu Dene and Metis of Norman Wells. We are one of seven land claims driven corporate arms of the beneficiaries of the Sahtú Region.
Meet one of our board members Jackie McDonald. She is here delivering fresh baked bread to her mom Ruby Mcdonald. Jackie has lived in Norman Wells for most of her life, along with a lot of her family members. The Mcdonalds are one of Norman Wells founding families. Jackie's children and grandchildren also grew up here. There have been many generations of Mcdonalds in Norman Wells, and will continue to for years to come.
Orange Shirt Day is an event that started in 2013. It was designed to educate people and promote awareness about all the residential schools and the impact this system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada, and still does today.
