Past Projects:
A Dené and Métis Ways of Respecting the Land: Caribou Traditional Knolwedge Study
The Sahtú Renewable Resource Board, in conjunction with Native Studies and Natural Resources Institute in Manitoba, funded this workshop in July 2009. Facilitated by Deborah Simons and Rodger Odgaard, this workshop focused on local traditional knowledge of Mountain Caribou in the Palmer Lake area of the Mackenzie Mountains.
Mackenzie Mountain School Cultural Exchange
Last year, our Mackenzie Mountain School students have participated in an exchange program with youth from Ontario. The NWLC has been involved by showing our Ontario exchange students what it’s like to live on the land in Norman Wells, as well as ice fishing at Kelly Lake for a day.
On Land Mountain Projects
We are honoured to take kids out in the mountains often and seen below are some pictures from recent trips. This program is offered to youth from Norman Wells and across the entire Sahtú region.
